Cholesterol is a condition where there is a high level of fat in the blood. Cholesterol naturally produces fatty compounds that play a role in metabolism. However, excessive cholesterol levels can lead to serious diseases. Therefore, it’s essential to recognize the signs of high cholesterol levels:

  1. Xanthoma & Xanthelasma
Xanthoma refers to fat deposits under the skin that appear yellowish, commonly found around the elbows, knees, or heels. Xanthelasma, on the other hand, is fat accumulation around the eyelids.

  2. Chest Pain
Chest pain occurs due to narrowed blood vessels caused by cholesterol buildup, potentially leading to heart disease. This pain is often described as a pressing sensation that may radiate to the arms, jaw, or back.

  3. Shortness of Breath
Shortness of breath during activities may result from narrowed blood vessels in the heart, reducing the oxygen-rich blood pumped throughout the body.

  4. Headaches
Frequent headaches, especially at the back of the head and neck, could be a sign of high cholesterol, as blood flow to the brain is disrupted by cholesterol buildup.

  5. Persistent Fatigue
If you often feel tired despite getting enough rest, it could indicate that the heart is working harder to pump blood due to narrowed blood vessels.

  6. Tingling or Numbness
Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet may signal impaired blood flow to the extremities caused by narrowed arteries.

  7. Changes in Nail Appearance
If nails become yellowish or develop dark lines underneath, it could indicate blood flow issues.

  8. Vision Problems
Blurred vision or the appearance of spots may be due to disrupted blood flow to the eyes caused by cholesterol plaques in the retinal blood vessels.
